KU profs awarded grant to develop space-based 'Net
Kansas University researchers have won a $362,000 NASA grant to make the Internet work as well in space as on Earth.
On Earth, the Internet can quickly reroute electronic communications traffic around blockages and breakdowns. Currently satellites do not have that flexibility.
Gary Minden and Joe Evans, professors of electrical engineering and computer science, and their team will research and evaluate the design, development and initial prototype of a space-based Internet.
