Quality Access to Online Health Information Based on User Profiles
Project Award Date: 01-15-2001
The goal of this project is to develop high-quality access to health information that is available on the World Wide Web for use by individuals and hospital personnel. This project will develop and deploy a "one-stop-shopping" site for high-quality information. The system will incorporate human judgements of a wide range of sites on a variety of criteria. The query-matching algorithm will incorporate the traditional keyword-based search in addition to user-profile settings for the importance of the other criteria. Deployment and support of the publicly accessible Web site will be the responsibility of Today Communications, Inc., with assistance from the project team members as needed.
The goal of the initial phase of this project is to create initial systems for business purposes (such as demonstration and collection of manual ratings). This will lead to the deployment of the first public site for use by partners (including templatized results for partner-specific look and feel). This phase culminates with the incorporation of user profiles to customize the search algorithms.
After the completion of Phase I, a solid search site should be in daily use, and the code upon which the system is built should become a more solid, database-driven architecture. Thus, Phase II will be the determining factor in planning: a range of predicted steps will be ordered and completed.
