Homework: Homework is due every week on Friday. The homework will consist of problems from the book as well as "Additional Problems", both of which will be available on the course website. Homework will be graded primarily based on the clarity of the solution, and strict correctness will be secondary. No late homework will be accepted. Your lowest homework score will be dropped.
Quizzes: There will be a quiz covering the material from the previous week every Monday. In addition, there will be a pop-quiz whenever more than 1/3rd of the class is absent. Your lowest quiz score will be dropped.
Exams: There will be an exam on Tuesday, June 17th. This exam will consist of an in-class portion as well as a take-home portion, which will be due on the following Friday. The final exam is on Friday, July 4th. You are responsible for all material in the covered sections in the book, not just material that was explicitly covered in class. Like the homework, exams will be graded primarily based on the clarity of the solution, and strict correctness will be secondary.
Course Grading: Grades will be determined according to the following breakdown:
Homework 45%
Quizzes 15%
Exams 40%
Standard grade divisions are used for assigning letter grades.
Calculators: A calculator may be used on all homework assignments and exams, but aside from arithmetic, the solutions should not rely on the calculator. That is, a calculator may be used to perform arithmetic and to check answers, but should not be used as the justification for a particular solution.
Honor Code: All work submitted for credit must be the student's own and is subject to the provisions of the Vanderbilt Honor Code. Details can be found at http://studentorgs.vanderbilt.edu/HonorCouncil/.
Accomodation Procedure: A student who needs course accommodations due to a disability, special arrangements in case the building must be evacuated, or has emergency medical information that needs to be shared with the instructor, should contact the instructor as soon as possible. Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Disability Services (see http://www.vanderbilt.edu/ead) at Vanderbilt provides specific accommodations for students with physical or learning disabilities. Upon receiving appropriate documentation from the student, the Opportunity Development Center will make arrangements with the instructor for the accommodations.
